On August 15, within the framework of the Moscow Urban Forum 2022, a panel discussion "Shrinking Arctic. Depopulation of Russian cities in the Arctic – a verdict or a new challenge?".

Researcher of the ICSER ​​"Leontief Center", Director for Spatial Development of the LC Consortium - AV R.M. Voronkova presented the studies of the LC-AV Consortium in terms of the spatial development of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: approaches to adapting the region's settlement system in conditions of strong depopulation and significant costs for the maintenance of small settlements, urban environment management policies taking into account the development cycles of the district's cities.

The actual and acute problem of most Russian regions and cities is the decline in population, manifested in some cases in the loss of development prospects by settlements. At the upcoming Forum of Strategists, this issue will be discussed, in particular with regard to the Arctic.
